2018 – One Photo Every Day — Sort Of

January 5, 2018

I started a 365 Photo Challenge for 2018.  There a a variety of ways to organize such projects.  Most such challenges involve posting a photo every day.  While I never formally committed to doing so, I have previously posted daily for at least a year straight. I noted it here, saying:

I never promised to post daily, and won’t make a big deal of it now. I did a big self-congratulatory post back in October to mark the 1st anniversary of the blog, and it seems too soon to do another. Daily posting is a bit of a grind, but rewarding. Having done it for a year I intend to keep going, but if I miss a day, well, life happens.  But I have no plans to take a day off.

I do not know how long I kept it going. I remember that when I stopped I dropped to posting every weekday, which I kept up a few years I think, though it’s possible I missed a day here or there. Then when I slowed down, I really slowed down. The daily posting became a chore after a while, and I thought I would be able to post fairly regularly when I stopped thinking of it as an every day thing, but I didn’t. Last year’s output was a disappointment to me.

But last year, I did not just stop posting regularly. I stopped shooting regularly.  And that is more important to me. I like sharing my work. but creating it is even more important. So my 365 Project for 2018 is to take at least one photo every day.

I have not yet decided whether I will post all of them, or how often. I do know I have no ambition to post daily, or even every weekday. But I do want to post more than I did last year. So I might post a photo for every day on a weekly basis, as I am doing with this post. Or I might decide to pick just the best photos each week and post them. If that is how I go, then some weeks it might be 2, or 3 or 5.  We’ll see.
