This is the street that drew me to come shoot in this neighborhood last Sunday. Sylvan Terrace. These homes date to the late 19th Century. Over the years the character of the street was lost, as the houses were refinished in aluminum siding or stucco. Then a restoration project in the 1970s brought them back to more resemble their original state.  They now sell for prices in excess of $1 million.

The Jumel mansion is behind the camera here, as is Jumel Terrace with its townhouses and cobblestone streets. At the far end of this image sits St. Nicholas Avenue. Walk down the steps at the end of the street you see here, and you are back into another world:
