Weber House and Milky Way – Palouse – nXnw2015

This was certainly one of the highlights of the trip. We drove to this unused, but not abandoned, farmhouse in the Palouse regios just before sunset on the last full day we had. For the first time during the trip we founda few other groups of photographers set up and ready to shoot the same sceneFortunately there was still plenty of room for us to set up as well.

Then, inexplicably, all the other groups left just before sunset. I guess they believed they caught enough pre-sunset golden light and were ready to move on, perhaps for dinner. We stayed, and shot through blue hour and beyond. We had about 90 minutes between the last daylight disappeared and the moon rose that night,  First we did some light painting, which I will feature at some future point, and then we dropped all the lights and shot the stars.

This was my first attempt shooting the Milky Way. You do not get many chances around NYC, so this was a treat. I made a lot of mistakes, and this is one of only 2 shots that were usable. I also think I should have set the horizon lower in order to feature more of the sky. Still, I am quite pleased with this and look forward to pursuing more opportunities to shoot the stars when I can.
