Here’s another shot from Eastern State Penitentiary. The Penitentiary opened in 1829 and closed in 1971. Nobody went inside — at least not officially — for 15-20 years. Over that time nature began to reclaim the space and decay proceeded. After a tussle among various factions who wanted to tear it down and develop the site or preserve and possibly restore it, the preservation faction won. Currently the goal is to maintain the site in a state of “preserved decay.”
