St. Anthony of Padua – SoHo

St. Anthony of Padua and Lisbon is quite the figure. He lived in the early part of the 13th century and was a direct disciple of St. Francis of Assisi. He was known even during his life for the miracles he performed, the quality of his peaching, and for his theological writings, and was called both a Professor of Miracles and the Hammer of Heretics.

His reputation was so strong that he was canonized less than one year after his death, and later, he was granted the title Doctor of the Church, which is an honor and title granted to only a relatively few saints whose writings are deemed to be an advantage to the entire Church. This is the entrance to St. Anthony of Padua Church on Sullivan Street in SoHo.
