I did not set out to do a series on Smorgas Chef, but I happened on their West Village location in the Spring one morning, and found their side door and upturned tables made for an interesting subject. I then hapened to be at their Stone Street location early on a Sunday morning, and noticed exactly the same type of tables in the same configuration, so I had to recreate the shot. I even gave it a similar treatment, at least with respect to the tilt-shift bokeh added in post. So now that I’ve done this twice I just might have to visit their third location at the Scandinavia House on Park Avenue early one morning to see what I find there.

9 Jul 2010As a “country boy” I cringe with city pictures but I always enjoy your work. Tables with security cables. Aaarrrrgggghhhh. Sign of the times.

10 Jul 2010Hi Butch. New York is actually very safe and low-crime since Giuliani showed everyone it could be done. Still, I doubt we’ll ever get to the point where you can leave property outside and unattended without expecting it to walk away. Thanks for the kind words.
