Queens May 2015 Color Run Photos – A #We35 Report

This past Saturday I went to photograph the Color Run held at Citi Field in Queens.  I did it as part of the fun #We35 project I’m a part of — our assignment for May was to attend and document a public event or gathering of some kind.  For my official report I have to pick 3 images, but nothing prevents me from sharing more than that here.

If you happen to be or know someone in any of these pictures; you can look at them in gallery form here, where you can download full size copies of any image for free for personal, non-commercial use, including your personal social media.  If you could give a link back here that would be great but not required. I’m not looking to make any cash off this project.*  I had a great time and would love it if I could also spread the joy around.  If that happens, I would love to hear from you either in a comment below or by using the “Contact” link in the left sidebar.

There is a button to Buy Images in the gallery but you can just ignore it. Instead, download any image using a right-click or the Download Icon in the bottom right.

I also put up a larger gallery here which includes a lot more images, and again they are free to downlaod and sharing in any personal non-commercial use.

Before The Race

It seemed worthswhile to document a bit of the pre-color, pre-race activities.

A unicorn, and Mr. and Mrs. Met were there.

The Orange Zone

I started shooting here.

The Blue Zone

I eneded up spending most of my time here. The longer I stayed the more the blue dust dominated the entire frame, and it blended almost perfectly with the sky. It was also the last color station in the race and turned into something of a celebration zone.

More unicorns whowed up.

Post Race Party

The photo that tops this post was from the post-race celebration. About every 15 minutes they held a massive powder and glitter explosion. Here’s what the scene looked like when the dust settled, plus one subway portrait from my ride home.

Gear Protection

Finally, some folks might want to know how I protected my camera during all this. I used my Fuji x100s with a single fixed-length lens (35mm equivalent) which forced me to get close to the action. I put in a slider lock 1-quart bag, and screwed a protective filter over the bag, cut out the circle, and it kept everything dust free. Here are some before and after shots.

Me

I had a great, colorful time.

I have been testing a similar protection measure when my Sony mirrorless but in my case it is for the rain 🙂
