Whether near to me or far: #we35 Expedition March

This We35 Monthly Expedition nearly beat me.  I struggled all month to come up with something appropriate, clever and meaningful for the challenge, which was given to us as follows:

“The Equinox marks the time of the year where the sun is at the equator making the day and night equal in length.  So for this expedition, you will submit two photographs. One from the day and another from the night. However, the the goal of the images is that together they have a greater meaning than when they are apart. “

I thought about contrasts, both direct and obscure. But nothing clicked. Every concept or its application seemed obvious, or too clever, or just lame. Finally around March 25 I found myself hearing Cole Porter as I thought about the challenge:

Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon or under the sun
Whether near to me or far
It’s no matter, darling, where you are
I think of you day and night

Which made me ask, when it comes to photography. what is “the one” for me. What one thing do I love to shoot whether near or far, under the moon and under the sun, in the roaring traffic’s boom, Day and Night, Night and Day? It’s the Empire State Building. While the world already has a few dozen shots of the Empire State Building from me, it can always do with a couple more. So last week I pulled the x100s out of my bag, once on the way to work and once heading home.

No grand meaning. Nothing clever. Just a classic, which is never a bad idea when you have no idea.
