This is a reasonably familiar photographic composition, featuring the Standard Hotel over the High Line park, framed by the cut-out of another building that straddles the park. Taken with Fuji GF670 medium format and Kodak Portra 400 film.

16 Jul 2014Good composition in this image, with that strong diagonal line on top. Also good to see that you keep using film in this era of omnipresent digital cameras:)

16 Jul 2014Thanks for the comment Luis. It’s always great to get positive feedback from someone whose work I respect in turn. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to meet last Spring when you were in NYC and I happened to be out of town. Hopefully our paths will cross some time.

17 Jul 2014I like the way this is framed by the foreground shadow and the black structural elements. And those two building elements contrast each other so well – that vertical slice and the square block. So crisp too. Lovely shot, Mark. I’ve meant to ask you before what scanner you use to convert your film work to digital?

17 Jul 2014Thanks Andy. This was scanned by the lab, so that’s why the high quality. I do also scan myself sometimes and use an Epson V600. You and see some of those at the links below. On the whole it does a decent job, but on most there is a noticeable difference from the pro level scanner:
