As an alternative to hiking up Bear Mountain, you can drive, and even if you hike you are likely to spend a bit of your hike either crossing or even on the road to the summit. For me, the last 100 yards or so to the top were on the paved road, and when I got there it was only about 15 minutes before sunset. As a result, I saw this gorgeous light hitting the trees lining the road on my final approach.
