None So Blind

none so blind

I updated the firmware on my Fuji X-E1 and its lenses over the weekend, and wanted to test the focus speed on the 60mm lens. The updates generally promised faster AF speed, and the weakest of the lot prior to the update was the 60. So I took some shots of my daughters, and then looked for more chances to test the lens under varied conditions.

That’s when I noticed these blinds, how they interacted with the late afternoon sun, and also how they moved and altered their relationship to each other with the slight breeze of each passing car.  I played with a variety of compositions, and then experimented with different crops. Mostly I considered a tighter crop that left only the slats in the image, but in the end I decided to keep in some external elements, as well as the side strings that make absolutely clear what these are. Not sure if that’s the right choice or if there even is a “right” choice, but it’s the choice I made.
