Keeping the corner completely in shadow was a choice. I had brighter exposures that I kept out of the merged image to create this look. Is there a point to using the HDR technique if you are going to keep that corner completely in shadow? I think so. Without merging multiple bracketed exposures into an HDR image, other areas would also be heavily in shadow, if not by so much.

15 Jan 2013I totally agree Mark. HDR is a tool ones uses to produce the image they want, not a script for what the image has to be. I really like the mystery in keeping that corner dark! Good stuff!

16 Jan 2013Hi Mark!
It was a good choice to leave the shadows – they create most of the atmosphere here.

17 Jan 2013Even before I read your words here Mark that shadow in the staircase totally drew me into the picture! There is some TERRIFIC light at work on this shot, my friend, and you’ve done a totally smashing job with it!
