Manhattan Avenue is the primary commercial strips in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. That sttple looming on the right is St. Anthony and St. Alphonsus Church. It is easy to find the steeple looming over your images when you shoot anywhere in Greenpoint, but difficult to get a full front view shot of this beautiful Church due to the way it is situated and the surrounding street plan.
This was my first shot that morning, and while it has both technical and compositional flaws, I love it for its capture of the essence of the neighborhood: buildings old and new, stores national and local, a main thoroughfare that curves just so slightly because the area developed long before anyone thought of a street grid.

14 Jun 2012I like the feeling to this. Anytime I can see a shot of NYC and the streets are empty it just adds an eerie feeling to the frame. Too bad getting a shot of the church is such a pain.

14 Jun 2012Thanks Chris. Shooting the church isn’t impossible, but pretty much any shot involves trade-offs and compromises.
