Fort Tryon Arches

These Fort Tryon arches are certainly catnip for a photographer like me, and I took additional shots from the other side looking in as well as inside them before I made my way here. This view is actually less interesting, I think, than the others, except for the very sparsely decorated Christmas tree to the right.

I’ve mentioned before that I am not categorically opposed to moving elements in my compositions when I am shooting outdoors, but that I also disfavor it and do so rarely. Well, I did it here. There was a wire garbage can next to the light pole that really detracted from the shot and was not really inherent to its nature either, so I picked it up and carried it across the path and out of the picture, returning it when done.

  1. I like your leading line from the lower right in this shot. It draws my eye to the arches. Nice shot, Mark.

  2. Don’t blame you for moving the can, it wouldn’t look right in there! Nice shot!

  3. Very cool! Great piece.

  4. Great leading lines, and I love the wonky leaning lamp post – a neat contrast.
