Five Bicycles

I will confess that I only noticed the three physical, real bicycles when I took the shot.  I did not notice the symbols until I started working on this image early this morning. This happens a lot, that I only become aware of thematic elements in a shot I took when I process days, weeks, or even months later. I’m not sure if I noticed them unconsciously when framing the shot originally, or am I really that obtuse sometimes. As I have previously mentioned, often when I am out shooting I get into a “zone” when shooting and my compositional choices are not always at the forefront of my consciousness.  Yet for this shot I do distinctly remember thinking “Oh neat, 3 bicycles in a row” so I wasn’t completely unawares.

  1. Ha it took me a minute to find the 5th bike. It’s like Where’s Waldo 🙂 Good shot Mark.

  3. Very cool! I love the symmetry of this scene, and the “Where’s Waldo” theme is fun.

  4. I absolutely love this image and blog today, Mark, you made me work for my treat!! I had to really soak this baby in to fully appreciate what you were trying to share with us and once the lightbulb went off I fell in love with the whole thing. Top drawer, my friend.

  5. Pure genius. I love when a title of an image makes you really look at a photo to make you think about the relationship. It makes the photograph take on a whole new meaning. Great capture, even if it was accidental!
