This appears to be authorized graffiti art on a building at the corner of Thirteenth Street and Queens Plaza South. The curving overpass is for an exit ramp off the Queensboro Bridge, which has a complicates set of access and exit points on the Queens side. I kept the processing pretty clean and simple, although…

Monthly Archives: March 2011These windows are in an industrial manufacturing/warehouse building in the Long Island City/Hunters Point section of Western Queens. It was taken around 8 am on a Sunday morning, in full light, so the glow is completely fabricated in post, although I do believe the lights were on inside. I think it has been a while… This DVD store has no name and no windows, but it was open for business at 6:20 am on a Sunday. I don’t think I need to say what types of DVDs it offers, which will just end up generating lots of irrelevant traffic to my site. There used to be lots more shops like… This is a scan from film, taken with my used Minolta CLE and a Leica lens, and it highlights some of the limitations of using film. Taken in either late December or early January, I was able to get these great long shadows in the middle of the day, but of course that meant that… Yo, people — the bus comes THIS way. TEMPORARY NOTICE: The site that hosts my images suffered an outage this morning, I’ll leave this notice up the rest of the days in case it recurs. Technical note: the embedded music player works for me when I view the post directly, but not when I view the post on the home page. Please let me know if you have problems. This happens a lot, that I only become aware of thematic elements in a shot I took when I process days, weeks,… Black and white HDR image of the restaurant Betel, which specializes in southeast Asian fare, at 51 Grove Street in the West Village. It feels like I haven’t processed something like this, with the detail all punched up, for a while. Tweet The barriers that you’re seeing in some recent photos are for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. These shots were taken the night before. Tweet I want to thank everyone who responded to my request for site design feedback on yesterday’s post, both in the comments and on Twitter. I’m not going to do anything immediately with the site, and I might just leave it as it is, but I have already made a change to the view you get… I did not even notice the KISS graffiti until I started processing the image. I’m feeling somewhat contrary today so I’m not going to offer my usual explanation of what this is, although people located in New York or New Jersey will probably figure it out. I had never seen this particular location before, and… |
