Nice work! Quick question: Do you shoot from the hip here… ie, kinda hide that you’re taking the shot?

Hi Chris. For my street photography, I do both: shooting from the eye and shooting from the hip. It depends on the shot and the situation. For shots this close you pretty much have to shoot from the hip unless you want to get into Bruce Gilden territory. And for anybody who doesn’t know Bruce Gilden, just do a google search. There are some youtube videos that demonstrate his technique. It’s not for most people.
Good work.
I think if Bruce Gilden cam up to me in the way he does i would punch him in the face. For me shooting from the hip is much less in your face and gives a more natural image. I find Gildens approach far to aggressive.
Have you ever been confronted by someone after shooting them in the street?

Andy,
Thanks. I have not had any confrontations. Once a guy said something in a half indignant, half joking kind of way, and he didn’t follow me as I kept walking. That’s it, apart from some hard looks from people that I usually only notice when I offload the images onto my computer.
