Art of Scrap

I went out shooting in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens this morning, and came across this. Is it art? Is it scrap? I’m not sure. I originally intended to title this post “Art or Scrap,” but I just noticed I mis-typed “Art of Scrap.” That was completely unintentional but I think I have my answer.

UPDATE: please scroll down ot the comments for some info about the use of the tilt/shift effect in this image.

  1. What ever it is, it’s really cool. Good eye, Mark.

  2. Love this one! The Tilt-Shift is so damn nice it makes me wonder why I “invested” in a dedicated tild-shift lens!

  3. Thanks, guys. Jacques, you might be happy to learn that this was taken with a dedicated tilt-shift. I also invested in the 24mm last fall, even though Focal Point can do an amazing job mimicking this look. I’ll also note that many of my tilt-shift shots feel somewhat arbitrary. I’m out shooting, the T/S is mounted, so why not. Not this photo, however — I had just switched to the 50mm right before coming upon this scene. I actually shot this with the 50mm from across the street, but I kept thinking, “this really needs t/s.”
