Yesterday I took a one day mini-vacation and took my daughters to the USS Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in the morning, followed by a viewing of Toy Story 3 in the afternoon. Both were a big hit with the girls. My photographs were concentrated on my girls, but I did grab a handful of 3-shot brackets on the E-Pl1 for HDR purposes. This was one of the more eye-catching planes on the deck: a Polish built MiG-17 painted with a North Vietnamese camouflage pattern, and I regret that I cut off part of the tail wing. I was not aware before our visit that the Intrepid museum features foreign military aircraft, and especially enemy craft.
According the to plaque, there is a connection to the Intrepid, in that on October 19, 1966 4 propeller driven Douglas Sky Raiders based on the Intrepid were credited with shooting down a MiG-17 and damaging 2 others.
