Until today, I have had nothing but praise for my Olympus Pen E-PL1 camera.  Today I tried to update the firmware, which requires proprietary software, unlike every other camera that lets you do it by memory card.  Whatever.  Not too big of a hassle.  You also have to connect the camera to the computer via USB, which I haven’t done since I bought the thing, since I use a card reader to transfer images.

Unfortunately, I cannot connect the stupid camera to the computer because some idiot at Olympus thought it a good idea to impose a proprietary USB port to the camera, so you can only use the USB cable that came with the camera.

I get more USB plugs cords and cables than I know what to do with, so I just keep one or two at each desk and throw away the rest.  I don’t know if I still have the Olympus one, or threw it away.  If I do have it, it could be at work, in a bag, in a drawer, or a box, or goodness knows where because every other company managed to play by open standards.  Only Olympus has to be different and annoying.

There is no justification for this.  Do I have to buy a new cord from Olympus just to install the @#$% firmware update?  Moronic.
