City Hall Park Fountain at Night

This fountain was designed by Jacob Wrey Mould in 1871, and is sometimes referred to as the Jacob Wrey Mould Fountain.  It originally sat in front of the old NYC Post Office.  If my information is correct (I can find no official sources)  the Post Office sat on the triangular tip of land where the Park now sits.  The fountain was moved to Crotona Park in the Bronx when the Post Office was scheduled for demolition, but various land use disputes kept that from happening for decades.  In 1999 Mayor Giuliani, after his second inauguration, had the fountain returned to its original location and placed in City Hall Park as part of the renovation of the park.

If you search the web, you will find numerous images of the Fountain, but this is the only one I can find taken at night.  It was completely accidental that I took this shot.  I was on a photo shoot downtown, and was surprised even to find the park was open.  It is surrounded by fences and gates, and it was so dark I assumed it would be closed.  I also, quite frankly, did not remember the fountain was there.  The location is extremely dark.  The lanterns surrounding the fountain give off very little light, much less than is suggested by this shot.  I kept the shutter open for 3 seconds, and processed the shot with Topaz Adjust to enhance the lighting and the color.
